TUE, JUL 29 (Day 1)
Traveling to Beltsville, Mary-land, we tour one of the world’s premier scientific centers, the Agricultural Research Service. Here our guide tells of the accomplishments and ongoing programs that has made them a world leader in agricultural research. After lunch in Washington, DC, at Union Station, we travel to Salisbury, Maryland, for a guided tour of the Ward Foundation's Wild Fowl Museum. Here, we will witness award-winning wild fowl carvings one must see to believe. Dinner is in Salisbury, where we spend the next two nights. The evening is free for relaxing as you wish. (D)

WED, JUL 30 (Day 2)
Today we begin in Memorial Park on Chincoteague Island, Virginia, where we will watch the annual Wild Pony Swim. These world-famous wild ponies are rounded up on Assateague Island and made to swim the channel from that island to our location on Chincoteague Island. The ponies are then led down the main street of the town to the Carnival Grounds, where they will be auctioned off tomorrow. You may wish to bring your umbrella, a small water jug and lawn chairs for this occasion, since the time of the pony swim is not set until that day and there may be a wait. Lunch is on our own at the Carnival Grounds before we drive to the Chincoteague Pony Center, which is dedicated to showcasing the Chincoteague pony, including the descendants of Misty. We return to our hotel in Salisbury, Maryland for our dinner and overnight. (B, D)

THU, JUL 31 (Day 3)
Today we return to the Carnival Grounds in Chincoteague to complete the wild pony roundup experience and take part in a portion of the Pony Auction. The auction not only provides a source of revenue for the local fire company, but also serves to trim the herd's numbers. To retain the permit to graze on Assateague Island, the herd must not exceed 150. Approximately 85 ponies are generally sold. Following lunch on your own, we drive to the Natural History Center for a guided tour of Assateague Island and view many species of wildlife and observe the habitat where the ponies live. En route home, we enjoy a relaxing dinner in Dover, DE, prior to our return to Lancaster. (B, D)

Please note: Walking is required on this tour in order to see the ponies swim.

Western entertainment will be enjoyed, as well as a delicious and plentiful dinner served cowboy style. (D)

THU, JUL 17 (DAY 2)
Today we travel east to the Badlands National Park, which consists of 244,000 acres of sharply eroded buttes, pinnacles and spires blended with the largest, protected mixed grass prairie in the United States. See why Franklin Lloyd Wright was quoted as saying, "I was totally unprepared for that revelation called the Dakota Badlands." Next we will head to Wall, South Dakota, to visit the famous Wall Drug Store. This popular tourist stop got its start during the Depression years by offering free ice water to thirsty travelers. Then we travel to Custer State Park for a Buffalo Herd Jeep Ride. After our evening meal in Spearfish, South Dakota, we will enjoy an impressive production of “The Greatest Story Ever Told” at the Black Hills Passion Play. FRI, JUL 18 (Day 3)
After breakfast, we’ll view Mount Rushmore with its colossal, sculpted heads of George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Abraham Lincoln, and Theodore Roosevelt, created under the direction of Gutzon Borglum. Next we see the Crazy Horse Memorial, the largest statue in the world. When completed, the mountain carving will stand 563 feet high and 641 feet long and will be carved in the round. Sculptor Korczak Ziolkowski began the project in 1948 at the request of Lakota elders who wanted "the white man to know the red man has great heroes, too." All FOUR faces on Mount Rushmore would fit inside just Crazy Horse's head. The face of Crazy Horse was completed on June 3, 1998, marking 40 years of progress on the sculpture. Later, we drive to Laramie, WY, for dinner and our overnight lodging. (B, D)

SAT, JUL 19 (Day 4)
We travel to Cheyenne, the capital of Wyoming to see the Frontier Days Old West Museum. It includes, among its exhibits, a horse-drawn vehicle collection and examples of classic Western art that capture the true spirit of the West. The highlight of our day is sure to be the Cheyenne Frontier Days Rodeo this afternoon. This year the "Daddy of 'em All" celebrates its 111th year as a leader in rodeo action. Cheyenne's champions are known to proudly display their winning belt buckles as status symbols throughout the rodeo circuit. The "Daddy of 'em All" is a phrase coined in 1919, when Cheyenne gained worldwide recognition for having the biggest and best rodeo in the West. Events include steer wrestling, steer roping, saddle bronc, bull riding, barrel racing, a wild horse race, and much more. We are guaranteed to see more rodeo action in one day than at any other rodeo. Our overnight accommodations are again in Laramie. (B, D)

SUN, JUL 20, (DAY 5)
Today is a day of travel. Get ready for the mountains to appear and the scenery to change as you approach the western part of the state. We cross the Continen-tal Divide at Togwotee Pass and make our decent to Jackson for dinner and our overnight accommodations for the next two nights in Jackson Hole, Wyoming, located just south of Grand Teton National Park. (B, D)

MON, JUL 21 (DAY 6)
Today, we tour Grand Teton National Park, famous for its mountain scenery and wildlife. Towering more than a mile above the valley of Jackson Hole, the Grand Teton rises to 13,770 feet. We'll stop at overlooks, visitor centers and have leisure time in Jackson Hole before enjoying dinner on our own. (B)

TUE, JUL 22 AND WED, JUL 23 (DAYS 7 & 8)
We travel through Yellowstone National Park, the first of our national parks to be established (1872), and generally the best known park in the U.S. We enter Yellowstone at the southern en-trance, see wildlife and Old Faithful, which spouts steaming water at regular intervals. Next, we'll visit the Paintpots, which are large springs filled with hot clay. We see views of Artist Point, Inspir-ation Point, Tower Falls, and lastly, we'll see the Mammoth Hot Springs, where hot water pours over terrace-like formations created by limestone deposits.
