Today will be a travel day as we head to New England. In the afternoon, we enjoy a one-hour guided walking tour of the Yale University campus in New Haven, Connecticut. We continue to Worcester, Massachusetts, for a bountiful dinner and our overnight accommodations. (D)

THU, AUG 7 (Day 2)
This morning, we travel to Portland, Maine, where we make a stop at one of the most photograph-ed of all lighthouses, The Portland Head-light. It is also one of the oldest lighthouses on the Atlantic Coast. Leaving Portland, we make a lei-surely stop in Camden, Maine, called "the Jewel of the Maine Coast". Our dinner and overnight are in Bar Harbor. (B, L)

FRI, AUG 8 (Day 3)
A local guide leads us in our sightseeing tour of Acadia National Park. Within the park is Cadillac Mountain (1,532 feet), the highest spot along our Atlantic shoreline. Following lunch, we travel to St. John in New Brunswick, Canada at the mouth of the St. John River on the Bay of Fundy. Its harbor is one of the finest on the Atlantic seaboard and the location of the Reversing Falls Rapids. Our overnight accommodations are in St. John. (B, D)

SAT, AUG 9 (Day 4)
Traveling east, we come to Moncton and Magnetic Hill. We drive to Prince Edward Island. Here we visit the Anne of Green Gables Museum displaying memorabilia relating to Lucy Maud Montgomery, author of the "Green Gables" books. We then travel to Charlot-tetown for the next two nights’ accommodations. This evening we see a theater performance of "Anne Of Green Gables" at the Confederation Centre of the Arts. (B, D)

SUN, AUG 10 (Day 5)
Our day begins with a visit to Woodleigh Replicas in Kensington, where large scale models of famous castle, cathedrals, and other buildings are displayed. We continue to Caven-dish to visit the "Green Gables" house, immortalized in the Anne of Green Gables books. After lunch, we travel to Charlottetown, and spend some free time browsing the restored waterfront area, Old Charlotte Town. We return to our hotel for dinner and another comfortable night. (B, D)

MON, AUG 11 (Day 6)
Today we have a leisurely day of travel, crossing the Northumberland Strait by ferry from Wood Islands, PEI, to Caribou, Nova Scotia. We’ll visit the Alexander Graham Bell National Historic Site. Well known for his many inventions, Bell is most recognized for his invention of the telephone. He chose the beautiful Cape Breton Island location to build his Canadian residence because in his own words, "I have seen the Canadian and American Rockies, the Andes and the Alps and the highlands of Scotland, but for simple beauty, Cape Breton outrivals them all." We arrive in Baddeck, NS, for our overnight stay. (CB, D)

TUE, AUG 12 (Day 7)
Following breakfast, we spend our day on the Cabot Trail with a native guide. We head to the northern part of Cape Breton Island, enclosed on the west by the Gulf of St. Lawrence, and on the east by the Atlantic Ocean. This scenic Na-tional Park area has a striking resemblance to the coastal regions of Scotland. The park is a wildlife sanctuary, where white-tailed deer and over 200 species of birds can be seen along the roads. You will be delighted by the scenery, the folklore, and the legends shared by our guide. Our destination for the night is Sydney, Nova Scotia. (B, D)

WED, AUG 13 (Day 8)
Just south of Sydney is the Fortress of Louisbourg National Historic Park, erected by the French between 1720 and 1745 to protect their possessions in the New World. Costumed guides interpret the fortress as it was in 1744. The afternoon finds us traveling west through picturesque Nova Scotia. Our hotel is in Halifax, Nova Scotia. (B, L)

THU, AUG 14 (Day 9)
Our local guide will point out the highlights of Halifax, including the Public Gardens. Next, we arrive in Peggy's Cove, a small fishing village built around a snug harbor and popular area for artists, photographers, and tourists. Here we en-joy lobster for lunch before we drive to our hotel in Yarmouth for this evening. (B, L)

FRI, AUG 15 (Day 10)

SAT, AUG 16 (Day 11)
This morning, we have a guided tour of the town of Kennebunkport. Historically, Kennebunkport has been very important in the shipping industry of Maine. Folks settling this area were bound to the sea, and even today the seafaring culture is still much in evidence. Following our tour and a glimpse of the George Bush summer estate, we have some free time. Next, we’ll tour the Seashore Trolley Museum (the oldest and largest electric railway museum in the world) and ride in restored antique trolley cars and transit vehicles. We enjoy a delicious dinner at Maxwell Silverman's Restaurant in Worcester, Massachusetts, rated by the Phantom Gourmet as one of the top 100 restaurants in New England. Our overnight accommodations are in Worcester, MA. (B, D)

SUN, AUG 17 (Day 12)
Not far away is Old Sturbridge Vil-lage, a recreated New England farming village of the 1790 to 1840 period. It contains more than 40 original structures on 200 acres of land. Following our lunch at the Bullard Tavern, we travel homeward. (B, L)

THU, AUG 14 (Day 5)
This morning finds us in the busy north German port of Warnemunde. Here we will have the opportunity to join one of our most exciting optional excursions: a visit by train to Berlin. From the imposing Brandenburg Gate to Berlin's grand museums and opera houses, we'll see it all during this full day tour of Germany's historic capital and one of Europe's great cultural centers.

FRI, AUG 15 (Day 6)
Today we will spend a relaxing day at sea on our beautiful cruise ship—the day is yours to enjoy as you wish!

SAT, AUG 16 (Day 7)
Following a delicious breakfast, we dock at Tallinn, Estonia. Because of its strategic location between St. Petersburg and Stockholm, foreign powers fought over Tallinn for centuries. Somehow, many of the city's incredible architectural treasures have been preserved. Don't miss the 13th century Toompea Castle, whose hallowed halls are a popular stop for many tourists.

SUN, AUG 17/MON, AUG 18 (Days 8 & 9)
This morning we set sail for the magnificent city of St. Petersburg, Russia! Peter the Great’s "sparkling "Window on Europe" was built to showcase the enormous wealth of the czars: the Summer Palace, the St. Peter and Paul Fort-ress—and the rooms of the Hermitage, which houses one of the world's greatest collection of art. We will have an opportunity to take in a ballet or enjoy a folkloric show during our stay here.

TUE, AUG 19 (Day 10)
Today we dock in the port city of Helsinki, Finland. The county of Helsinki forms the core of Fin-land's largest urban area, known in Finnish as the "capital area." The Finns are justly proud of their architectural heritage. Their capital presents a kaleidoscope of romantic, neo-classical, baroque and ultra-modern buildings in a symphony that could have been written by Sibelius himself. We'll have op-portunity to visit the great Upenski Cathedral and the amazing Tempeliaukia church, carved out of rock. Then, enjoy free time to browse in the colorful market square, where you'll find crafts and produce from villages all over Finland.

WED, AUG 20 (Day 11)
This morning, we will travel to the magnificent city of Stockholm, Sweden. The nickname, "Venice of the North," hardly does justice to Stockholm's uniquely beautiful natural setting. Lovely islands are laced by an intricate system of waterways and bridges, strung between a freshwater lake and the sea. Gabled houses lean out over narrow alleys in the old town, while just blocks away a magnificent 17th-century palace overlooks the wide harbor. You may visit the Vasa Museum, where we will be immersed in the world of the fascinating war ship Vasa, that sank on its maiden voyage on August 10, 1628.

THU, AUG 21 (Day 12)
A relaxing day is spent upon the waters of the Baltic Sea as we cruise toward Do-ver and enjoy more of the luxury amenities upon the splendid Norwegian Jewel.

Our first exciting stop of the day will be at "The Wilds" in Cumberland, Ohio, where a step-on guide will board our coach to take us on a fascinating safari through open range animal pastures. This 60,000 square foot museum is chock full of interesting exhibits! We'll take a journey through time unlike any we have ever experienced. Biblical history will come alive as God's Word—beginning in Genesis— explains the universe that we see today. Gape at the towering face of Grand Canyon along the front wall, while dinosaurs hint at catastrophe. Peer back into the deepest recesses the heavens, and discover that the latest images of the stars confirm and all-powerful Creator, not a random bang created our universe. Retreat to the café for a delicious lunch and enjoy a spectacular view of the lake and nature trails, or have a seat on the patio and breathe in the fresh air of God's good creation! Our next stop is "Just Ducky"! It's not a boat, it's not a truck, it's a duck! We'll be settling in our World War II amphibious vehicle for a fun-filled guided tour through Pittsburgh. The duck is a unique mode of transportation that is able to drive on land and also cruise on water. You will see highlights of Pittsburgh's cultural and historical sites. Along the way, your "chauffer" will give you facts that even some native "Pittsburghers" don't know! One word of caution—quacking and having fun IS required! Following this delightful time together, we board our motorcoach for our drive back to Lancaster, enjoying a delicious dinner together in Bedford, PA. (B, D)

Our motorcoach will take us northeast as we enter the Green Mountain National Forest of Vermont and arrive at our overnight accommodations at the Sugar Lodge in Warren, Vermont. Following an extended homemade continental breakfast, we depart with our local guide for a full day of touring. This morning you are in for a treat, as we are part of Vermont’s own cooking show on live television called, New England Cooks. Your hosts are Tony and Carol and a guest Vermont chef. Samples are passed around and recipes are handed out to take home. Next, we enjoy lunch and shopping at Historic Church Street Marketplace before we visit Shelburne Farms. This nationally acclaimed 1,400-acre historic site has some of the most spectacular lake and mountain scenery anywhere. The guided tour features 19th century buildings and the farm's magnificent agricultural landscape. Late afternoon, we check into the historic Brandon Inn in Brandon, Vermont, where we enjoy a welcome reception followed by dinner. Then, we visit the wonderful small city of Rutland, whose historical buildings and small boutiques are intertwined with today's "chain stores." Here, we have lunch on our own. Next, the Vermont Marble Museum, the world's largest, invites us to learn about the stone that helped determine Vermont's history. At Mendon Mt. Orchards, we'll learn how a family produces its famous pies, cider and other apple products. Taste testing is mandatory! THU, AUG 28 (Day 1)
The cruise/tour group will meet in Lancaster and then be transferred to the Baltimore/
Washington International Airport (BWI) for our flight to Fairbanks, Alaska. We are met on our arrival and taken to our overnight accommodations in Fairbanks.

FRI, AUG 29 (Day 2)
Fairbanks, called "The Heart of the Golden North," is Alaska's second largest city. It lies on the Chena River, and is in the center of the gold mining region. Architecturally, it is a city of contrasts, with log cabins mixed in among the modern office buildings. This morning, we enjoy a guided tour of the area, experience a demonstration and do some gold panning at the El Dorado Gold Mine. This afternoon, we board the riverboat "Discovery," the last of Alaska's sternwheelers, for a cruise on the Chena and Tanana Rivers and a unique perspective of this city. Also, we will visit an Athabascan village and see a bush pilot demonstration and the kennels of the late Susan Butcher, four-time Iditarod champion. This evening, we are partakers of a mouth-watering Salmon Bake which is all part of your Alaskan experience.

SAT, AUG 30 (Day 3)
This morning, reload your camera for a motorcoach trip from Fairbanks to the widely acclaimed Denali National Park. On arrival, you will have time to purchase your lunch and have a free afternoon to choose some optional possibilities, or relax in a hot tub at your Denali Princess Wilderness Lodge.

SUN, AUG 31 (Day 4)
Today we experience Denali Park on an in-depth Tundra Wildlife Tour that takes us deep into the wilderness of the Park. There is a good chance we will see moose, grizzly bear, caribou, mountain goats and more. Of course on a clear day, a view of majestic Mt. McKinley is most impressive as it rises 20,320 feet from the Alaska range—the tallest, most spectacular mountain in North America. Following this six to eight hour tour, the remainder of the day is at your leisure to enjoy your surroundings. Our overnight accommodations are again at the Denali Princess Wilderness Lodge.

MON, SEP 1 (Day 5)
This morning, we are transferred to the rail depot to board our private "Ultra Dome," the Denali Express for a full day excursion. This is luxury rail travel at its best. We'll view breathtaking scenery as we travel south through the Talkeetna Mountains and along the Susitna River, past Anchorage, (Alaska's largest city where over half the population of Alaska lives) to the port city of Whittier, where we board the Island Princess for our spectacular southbound Inside Passage cruise.

TUE, SEP 2-MON, SEP 8 (Days 6-12)
For the next week, we cruise the Inside Passage on this fine ship. For more than 30 years, Princess has been the pioneer of luxury Alaska cruises and cruise tours. We'll enjoy meals prepared by master chefs, evenings filled with exciting entertainment, and service you may have thought simply no longer existed. What's more, many of the Princess Cruise captains and their officers are 3rd and 4th generation mariners. You'll never be in more experienced hands than when you sail with Princess. We view spectacular scenery on all sides of the ship as we cruise. Bring your binoculars so you can spot one of the many bald eagles in this area, or possibly a mother bear and her cubs playing on shore. Our cruise for the next seven days takes us by way of the College Fjord, where you'll see plenty of Alaska scenery, including 16 glaciers. Next, we're off to Glacier Bay, boasting the most dramatic and tightly clustered collection of glaciers in Alaska. Then we cruise to Skagway, which, in 1898, was bustling with gold miners hoping to strike it rich. This town still maintains its rustic appearance, much as it was at the turn of the century. Juneau is our next port of call. This is Alaska's capital city, and the ship will offer tours at a nominal fee. You can stroll through Juneau's waterfront and downtown area, or take an optional tour, such as an excursion to Mendenhall Gla-cier. Our next port is Ketchikan, the sal-mon capital of the world. Along with fishing, the pulp and lumber industries keep this town alive. We then cruise along the islands and fjords of the British Columbia coast, and into the straits of Georgia. Keep your eyes open for whales and porpoises as we cruise on to Vancou-ver. On arrival in Vancouver, we are transferred to the airport for our flight home. We have come to the end of this outstanding tour, but the memories will stay with us for a lifetime.

Following free time and lunch in the area, we follow a scenic route through Rocky Mountain National Park, stopping for pictures and enjoying one of the most popular drives along Trail Rider Road. Don't forget your camera as the view is nothing less than spectacular! We continue on to Vail, CO, where we have a delicious dinner and spend the night. (B, D)

SAT, SEP 6 (Day 3)
Following breakfast at our hotel, we will enjoy free time in downtown Vail, CO. With world renowned skiing, diverse shops and restaurants, friendly neighborhoods and breath-taking mountain views, Vail is arguably the finest resort destination in the world. Next we travel to the Gunnison River and Gorge National Monument in Montrose, CO. No other canyon in North America combines the narrow opening, sheer walls and startling depths offered by the Black Canyon of the Gunnison. Our dinner and overnight accommodations are in Montrose. (B, D)

SUN, SEP 7 (Day 4)
This morning we drive southward along the San Juan Scenic Highway, also cal-led the "million dollar highway." Whether this name refers to the cost of building the highway, or the value within the nearby gold mines, has never been determined; but the view is spectacular, perhaps explaining why the area is also called the "Switzerland of America." We stop to tour a gold mine and, following lunch, board the Silverton Narrow-Gauge Rail-road, an historic coal-burning passenger train with coaches from the 1880's. The 3½ hour ride travels through magnificent mountain scenery and wilderness accessible only by rail, horseback or by foot. For dinner tonight, we go to the Bar D Ranch for a special chuck wagon cookout and Wild West Show. Our lodging is in Durango. (B, D)

MON, SEP 8 (Day 5)
Today begins with a drive to Mancos, CO, to the beautiful Mesa Verde Nation-al Park. Mesa Verde, Spanish for green table, offers a spectacular look into the lives of the Ancestral Pueblo people, who made it their home for over 700 years. Today, the park protects over 4,000 known archeological sites, including 600 cliff dwellings. These sites are some of the most notable and best preserved in the United States. Mesa Verde is packed full of animals including golden eagles, coyotes, and mountain lions. While touring the sites, you'll stand a good chance of seeing rock squirrels, rabbits or any one of the 200 birds that make their home here. Following lunch, we travel to one of the areas most unique landmarks, Four Corners Monument located in Window Rock, Arizona. This is the only place in the United States where four states intersect at one point: Arizona; New Mexico; Utah and Colorado. We have time at our hotel to get freshened up before dinner (B, D)

TUE, SEP 9 (Day 6)
Our travels today take us over mountains and through forest lands to the Great Sand Dunes National Monument. This 39-square mile stark and ever-changing landscape has been formed over the course of years by the winds that carry the sand northeastward across the San Luis Valley. Too heavy to rise above the Sangre De Christo Range, the sand is dropped at the foot of the rugged mountains, creating an eerie sandscape. Local legend maintains that wagon trains have vanished among the dunes, some as high as 700 feet. Later, we visit the amazing Royal Gorge, site of the world's highest suspension bridge. This magnificent canyon was formed by the Arkansas Ri-ver and provides breathtaking views from the bridge, which spans it. Overnight accommodations are in Canon City, CO. (CB, L)

WED, SEP 10 (Day 7)
This morning, we visit the newly renovated Olympic Training Center, where our guide will tell us how athletes are preparing for the upcoming games. We also make a brief visit to the U. S. Air Force Academy, where we see the im-pressive modern chapel. Next up is a stop at James Dobson's Focus on the Family headquarters. You've heard the show on Christian radio stations, now learn what's involved in the production of the broadcasts, publications, films and video tapes. Tonight, we enjoy a good dinner in Color-ado Springs before going to our hotel, where we spend the next two nights. (B, D)

THU, SEP 11 (Day 8)
Pikes Peak looms high above Colorado Springs. We take the nine-mile ride a-board the Cog Railway to the top of Pikes Peak, the best known of the Rocky Mountain peaks. Then we visit the Gar-den of the Gods, a 1,300-acre park at the base of Pikes Peak, where the Great Plains meets the Rockies. Here we see unbelievable geological formations in-cluding the famous Balanced Rock and Kissing Camels. Following dinner, we return to our hotel for the second night. (B, D)

In the 18th century, the island was at the center of a bustling pirate culture, as swashbuckling pirates such as Blackbeard and Drake, traded stolen wares in the port of Char-lotte Amalie. This world-renowned Carib-bean island is home to amazing beaches, gorgeous sea and landscapes and unbelievable duty-free shopping. Whether looking for jewels, crystal, perfume and fine wines in the shops of Charlotte Amalie, or soaking in the sun on the incredible beaches, you’ll marvel at the wealth of history on this treasure-filled paradise.

THU, SEP 11 (Day 5)
Today the breezes take us to Philipsburg, St. Maarten. When the Spanish closed their colonial fort on St. Maarten in 1648, a few Dutch and French soldiers hid on the island and decided to share it. Soon after, the Netherlands and France signed a formal agreement to split St. Maarten in half, as it is today. Philipsburg displays its Dutch heritage in its architecture and landscaping. Both sides of this 37-square mile island offer beautiful ocean vistas, gourmet cuisines, first-rate water sports and beaches, and some of the best duty-free shopping in the world.

FRI/SAT, Sep 12, 13 (Days 6 & 7)
We’ll enjoy two relaxing days at sea, enjoying great food, top-notch entertainment and fun activities aboard this wonderful vessel. Freedom of the Seas is a destination in itself. You’ll want to relive this experience over and over again.

SUN, SEP 14 (Day 8)
We disembark Freedom of the Seas this morning in Miami where we are transferred to the airport for our return flight, and then transfer to Lancaster.

This tour is being offered in cooperation with Christian Tours.

Our local guide will greet us at our hotel, located near the beautiful Hyannis Harbor. We will enjoy a delicious dinner before settling in for a relaxing evening in our hotel, where we will spend the next four nights. (D)

Following breakfast at our hotel, we will meet a local guide who will take us on a tour of Cape Cod. We will travel on scenic Route 6A driving through colonial villages that are filled with wonderful examples of New England architecture. The town of Dennis is home to the Cape's first cranberry bog. In 1816 Henry Hall discovered that the sand from Cape Cod Bay that blew in and covered his "wild" cranberry field made the berries sturdier and larger. This discovery was the catalyst that transformed cranberry farms into big business. The original bog is still in production today tucked away on a narrow dirt road north of Route 6A. Our guide will tell you all about the "Legend of Scargo Lake" as we continue along on your journey. We will travel from the north side of the Cape to the south side, stopping to tour the quaint seaside village of Chatham, view the Chatham Light and enjoy the view at the Chatham break. We will have free time along Main Street for lunch and shopping. Our next destination is the town of Harwich, which is the cranberry capital of Cape Cod. A visit to the Harwich Historic Society Museum will fill us in about the rich history of cranberry farming in this area. You will also enjoy a guided tour of a working Cape Cod cranberry bog and farm. The farm stand features gifts and cranberry items available for purchase. We end our fascinating day with dinner and relaxation at our hotel. (B, D)

Today we travel to the village of Watkins Glen, once a major producer of salt for the state. Adjoining the village, at the south end of Seneca Lake, Watkins Glen State Park is our destination. Rock formations and 18 waterfalls highlight the scenic glen, which drops about 400 feet in 2 miles. Cliffs rise 300 feet above the stream, and a bridge 165 feet above the water spans the glen. (Note: There are 800 steps to bottom of glen.) We'll take our coach to the top of the glen and walk down, to avoid the strenuous climb. Those not wishing to walk through the glen may browse the quaint shops in the village. We continue northward along the western shore of Seneca Lake, largest of the Finger Lakes, to Geneva, NY, nestled in the center of a rich agricultural and nursery region, and our overnight accommodations. American Indian folklore states that the Finger Lakes were formed when God placed His handprint on some of the most beautiful land ever created. Dinner tonight is at the Belhurst Castle, a few minutes from our hotel. (D)

FRI, OCT 18 (Day 2)
Following a bountiful breakfast at our hotel, we drive to Canandaigua, built on the site of the Seneca Indian village Kan-an-dar-gue. Here we visit the Granger Homstead and Carriage Museum. This is the impressive home of Gideon Granger, who was active in state politics during the American Revolution and Postmaster General during the presidential administrations of Thomas Jefferson and James Madison. Built in 1816, this grand home has many of the original furnishings. Our guide will share many fascinating details about the Grangers and the collections on display. Then, it's time for a drive southward to Canandaigua Lake, considered to be the most beautiful of the Finger Lakes. We board the Canandaigua Lady, a paddlewheel steamboat, and enjoy an elegant luncheon cruise while viewing the passing lake-shore. When we board our coach, we head toward home, stopping at the Country Cupboard in Lewisburg, where we have time to browse through their many gift shops and have dinner on our own. (B, L)

MON, OCT 20 (Day 1)
Our first stop this afternoon is Buhl Mansion Guesthouse. We will experience the life of Sharon, PA's most famous industrialist and philanthropist, Frank H Buhl. His castle was built in 1890 and is on the National Register of Historic Castles. Next, Daffin's Candy Company entices us through its doors. Our tour includes a visit to the Chocolate Kingdom, which is home to a 400 pound turtle, a 125- pound Chocolate reindeer, a miniature village and much more, all made of chocolate. It is only October, but we cannot pass by Kraynak's Christmas Land. Everything Christmas can be found here. You will enjoy the elaborate displays, ornaments, greenhouses, gifts, candy and more. Then we are off to the Avenue of Flags, 444 of them in all. It is the largest known display of American Flags in the world. This impressive sight serves as a symbol of American hope and pride. A highlight of the day is our arrival at Tara Country. Inspired by the greatest movie ever, Gone With the Wind, Tara offers fantastic Southern hospitality and a chance to enjoy the luxuries of days gone by. Its owners, passionate Gone With The Wind historians, scoured the south for their own Tara, but found it in the north and filled it with priceless antiques and collectibles. We will enjoy a sumptuous dinner here this evening and overnight in their magnificent guest rooms. (D)

TUE, OCT 21 (Day 2)
Our day begins with a guided tour of our exquisite surroundings at Tara. Then the sights of Mercer, PA, draw us to the quaint downtown area where we will leisurely visit the Historical Society, browse the shops and get lunch. A very unusual experience awaits us this afternoon at the Linesville Spillway. At the spillway, we will feed the ducks…as they walk on the backs of the fish! You must see it to believe it. For you train buffs, a visit to the Railroad Museum is scheduled before we head back to Tara for another bountiful dinner. (B, D)

WED, OCT 22 (Day 3)
Our visit to the Wendell August Forge this morning is an experience you won't soon forget. As we tour the workshop, we will marvel as each pewter, bronze, aluminum and sterling silver piece is painstakingly crafted by hand, using the same tools and techniques Pennsylvania artisans used when they opened in 1923. Our next stop is the mission shop of Slovak Folk Crafts. Here we will delight in all the gorgeous and intricate arts and folk crafts of the Slovakian people. After lunch, we visit the Phipps Conservatory in Pittsburgh. After wandering through their 14-rooms of exotic plants, lush outside gardens, sparkling fountains and shimmering pools, we will be ready to relax as we make our way home. (B, L)

WED, OCT 16 (Day 1)
Our vacation begins as we travel west through a portion of Pennsylvania, touching a small part of western Maryland, and into "The Mountain State" of West Virginia. Following appropriate meal and rest stops, we come to our hotel in downtown Parkersburg, West Virginia, just a few blocks from the Ohio River. The Blennerhassett Hotel will be our home for the next two nights. Built in 1889, when Parkersburg was a major oil-refining center, it was a grand showpiece as well as a hub for business dealings. Fully restored in 1986, this antique-filled hotel is still a grand showpiece. Registered as a national historic landmark, it captures the atmosphere of the gaslight era but offers modern conveniences. Following our welcome reception and check-in, we enjoy an elegant dinner followed by "an evening with Mrs. Blennerhassett." Although Margaret and her husband, Harman, lived on their island home for only a few years, their lives influenced the course of local, state, and national history, and their story unfolds like a popular novel. (D)

THU, OCT 17 (Day 2)
Fenton Glass Factory in Williamstown, West Virginia, provides an interesting tour this morning as we watch molten glass transformed into gorgeous heirlooms by master craftsmen using centuries-old tools and techniques. Across the Ohio River in Belpre, Ohio, we find hidden behind a beautiful gingerbread facade of a larger-than-life doll house, the Lee Middleton Doll Company. Lee Middleton, an artist and mother, began making dolls at her kitchen table about 25 years ago and today, we have the opportunity to see the making of the dolls. Next is a riverboat ride to historic Blennerhassett Island on the Ohio River. It is the fifth largest island on the Ohio River, and it was an earthly paradise that Harman Blennerhassett created for his young bride, Margaret. The aristocratic couple arrived from Ireland in 1796 and built an exquisite mansion on the island that rivaled Jefferson's Monticello. As we experience this island on horse-drawn trolley and tour the estate, we will learn more about this unique family before returning to our hotel in Parkersburg. (B, D)

FRI, OCT 18 (Day 3)
Following a good breakfast, we head toward home with some popular attractions on the way. At lunch time, we arrive in Fallingwater, designed by the architectural genius, Frank Lloyd Wright. Because it was built over a waterfall to blend in with its natural surroundings, the gentle sound of falling water can be heard throughout its structure. The pleasant scenery of the Pennsylvania Mountains continues as we head east to Shanksville, Pennsylvania, and the crash site memorial of United Flight 93. Learning of the World Trade Center and Pentagon attacks on September 11, 2001, passengers attacked the hijackers on their plane, an act widely believed to have saved the lives of many on the ground, at a cost of their own. Our guide will set the stage for this infamous day before we drive to Bedford, PA, for our evening dinner and then home to Lancaster. (B,D)
