Alaska Land & Sea Photo Blog
Tour Name: Alaska Land & Sea
Tour Dates: June 11-23, 2025
Tour Director: Patti Olson
Tour Highlights:
“What a blessing to travel with fellow Christians to experience the amazing state of Alaska and to see the glory of God’s handiwork everywhere we turned. The weather was the best ever, and we had a rare opportunity to view Mount Denali clearly for two full days. We had a close view while touring Denali National Park, and we got many views again during our ride on the Alaska Railroad to Anchorage. Besides wildlife in Denali National Park, we saw a lot of marine life in the Inside Passage along with awesome glaciers. I highly recommend one of the tours to Alaska offered by Bob Neff Tours. Come join us!”

- The map shows our route from Fairbanks to Denali, then Anchorage and Whittier. On the cruise we traveled from Whittier to Glacier Bay, Skagway, Juneau, and Ketchikan.
- Alaskan snow-capped mountain ranges from high above.
- Alaska’s rivers are “braided” as they carve varying paths through the landscape.
- Small planes are critical to reaching remote villages that are not accessible by the limited road system.
- Antler Arch in Fairbanks is a great place for a photo.
- The Riverboat Discovery took us for a smooth ride down the Chena River to a living history museum, Chena Village, and past a sled dog kennel and demo.
- This beautiful fur parka is warm enough for the very cold winters in interior Alaska.
- These reindeer still have velvet on their antlers.
- The gift shop at the riverboat dock included a chance to get a picture with a dogsled.
- Entering Denali National Park
- As we entered Denali National Park for a Wilderness Tour, this park ranger greeted our group.
- A rare sight, seeing Denali clear enough to see the glacier steps between the north and south peaks. We had clear views for two full days as we explored the park and rode the Alaska Railroad to Anchorage the next day.
- Everyone wanted a photo of Mount Denali in its full glory.
- On the lookout for wildlife on the Wilderness Tour in Denali National Park.
- These Willow Ptarmigan are the state bird and in their summer plumage. In winter, they are totally white.
- Our group of adventurers.
- Mount Denali and Mount Foraker (right) as we headed south to Anchorage.
- We rode the Alaska Railroad with Holland America domed cars from Denali National Park to Anchorage, and the next day on to Whittier where we boarded our cruise.
- Our conductor was just one of the friendly team on our Alaska Railroad journey.
- The domed rail cars were comfortable and afforded great views.
- Arriving by Alaska Railroad and Holland America railcars to the port of Whittier, where we boarded our cruise on the Noordam.
- Holland America is the longest-serving cruiseline for Alaska cruises.
- The Noordam offered many different places to view the beautiful glaciers in Glacier Bay National Park.
- Margerie Glacier, the largest tidewater glacier in Glacier Bay National Park.
- The White Pall and Yukon Railroad was built during the Yukon gold rush to get miners quickly and safely to the gold fields. It follows the historic Chilcoot Trail from Skagway, Alaska, to Frasier, British Columbia. Today the line makes many runs along the historic trail for cruise ship visitors.
- White Pass gets a lot of snow each winter. This is how it is cleared from the railroad tracks.
- An historic gold dredge near Skagway. Ones like this were used for gold mining in Fairbanks, Nome, Skagway, and other places with gold deposits. We got to learn how to pan for gold.
- A view of downtown Juneau as the Noordam was pulling away from port.
- Juneau’s totem pole at the cruise dock. There’s a story told here, but I have yet to discover it.
- Thar she blows! Humpback whales in Auke Bay near Juneau were easy to spot with their spouting.
- A whale of a tale…
- What a treat to see humpback whales bubblenet feeding.
- The sea lions on the buoy kept pushing intruders off!
- The bald eagles put on an aerial ballet for us as we went by on a crabbing boat.
- The eagles swooped down to do their own fishing.
- These bear cubs were playing in a field near Juneau.
- Ketchikan is known for salmon fishing and crabbing.
- This crab could make a yummy dinner.
- Nice catch!
- Everyone was excited to explore the different ports in the Inside Passage.
- The towns in SE Alaska are dwarfed by the large cruise ships that visit each day in the summer.
- An early morning arrival at the cruise port in Vancouver, British Columbia.
- Come explore Alaska, the 49th state, with Bob Neff Tours. We’d love to show you this beautiful land.
