Tour Name: Trains of West Virginia/Canaan Valley
Tour Date: August 14-17, 2024
Tour Director: Grace Heagy
Tour Director Highlights: We enjoyed four days in the beautiful mountains of West Virginia, riding on two trains and staying at the wonderful Canaan Valley Resort. New Tygart Flyer took us to High Falls on the Cheat River. Cass Scenic Railroad steam engines pushed and pulled us through switchbacks up the side of the mountain in open air cars to the Bald Knob scenic view at the top. A chairlift ride to the top of a mountain provided expansive views of the Allegheny Mountains. At Green Bank Observatory we saw an enormous telescope located in a radio quiet zone, surrounded by mountains. The tour included time for relaxation at the resort, enjoyable meals and on our return trip to Lancaster, we stopped in Harpers Ferry to learn about its role in the Civil War.
