Tour Name: Kenya Safari

Tour Date: June 8 – 21, 2023

Tour Director: Yang Bontrager

Tour Director Highlights: It was with great anticipation that we began our Kenya Safari arriving in Nairobi, Kenya late in the evening. After a good night’s rest, we loaded up in several vans and headed off to the Olpejeta Conservatory to learn about the rescue and preservation of white rhinos before overnighting in our tents at Sweet Water. The tents were private and very comfortable, so it wasn’t difficult “roughing it.”  Throughout the tour, we stayed at various game lodges which offered comfortable and clean rooms. Each morning we went out on a game drive in the National Parks, returned to the Lodges for lunch and headed out again for another game drive in the late afternoons. We explored the Samburu National Reserve which is abundant with rare species of animals such as the Grevy zebra, ostrich, rhino, cheetah, reticulated giraffe and oryx; received a warm welcome to the Samburu village and learned about their culture and unique way of life before heading to Lake Naivasha. Here, we took a boat ride to an island and mingled with zebras, giraffes, and water buffalo, including a close-up view of hippos. Next was a game drive in the Maasai Mara Reserve where we spotted a leopard; several lions & their cubs; giraffes; and warthogs. We took a full day game drive through the Amboseli National Park and watched elephants walk right by our safari vehicles, numerous zebras, giraffes, water buffalo, and antelopes. Before concluding our safari, we hand-fed giraffes at the Giraffe Center and spent time at the Karen Blixen Museum. What an exciting Safari – we saw the much anticipated “Big Five” (lion, elephant, leopard, water buffalo, rhino). Indeed, this was the trip of a lifetime!!
